In spot-light: The Mabed Project. Posted 4/5/2001

The Mabed Project, is one of my (Arik) most important projects if not the most important to date.

Mabed2000.B is the newest Mabed version, and it includes a brand new HTML editor, Batch editor, Qbasic editor, Text editor and internet browser. Mabed has also a skin-changing program and you can change Mabed's skin. M2000 is a Win95/98/ME based version.

Mabed2000 is the final Mabed version to-date.

Mabed begun it's way as a simple Dos - based editor, and during a period of three years it became the best editor ever made.

Mabed was made by me, during the first years with the MS Dos based editor and then with Visual - Basic.

Mabed was created after Nir Koblenc, taught me how to program in Batch.

After I created the first Mabed version: Mabed 0.1, Doron Ravid asked me to teach him how to program as well, and shortly after that he created his own editor: DREdit.

I wanted to make a better editor so I created a more advanced version: Mabed2.

After that the big competition begun.

Doron created new DRedit's and I created new Mabed's and the programs begun to be more and more complicated.

The competition reached it's pick in late 1997 when new version came out every 2-3 month.

I created during that period Mabed5, which was a MONSTER. It had 3 menus and a total of 18 options - I even added a calculator just to make it better!

Doron, decided that he can't match Mabed5 and the only way to win is to make a much more advanced version - so he bugun to learn Visual Basic.

After a few month of studing he released DRedit95, which was amazing! A Windows based version, it was the next generation of programing and it was alot better then all the old Dos editors together.

I had to do something, or I would lose the compotition, and so I begun to learn Visual Basic as well.

A year has passed, and DRedit ruled ANLY as the only advanced editor.

Then it came: close to the 1998 summer vacation, I released Mabed98. Mabed98 was AMAZING! It was the next generation of Mabed. My first version for Windows. Mabed had all the options of DRedit + alot of new options, new Batch wizarda and a HTML editor.

DRedit's days as the only advanced editor were over.

Two month later I released Mabed99 and Mabed6. Mabed99 was the next generation in Windows programming - it was a huge step forward, like DRedit95. Mabed99 had brand new wizards for HTML, Batch and QBasic - they made programming unnessesary, you didn't have to know the language to program - Mabed did everything by itself. Mabed6 was my final Batch editor - if there was any doubt that DRedit is better in Dos, when Mabed6 was released everyone agreed that Mabed6 is the best known Dos editor.

In a last attempt to save DRedit, Doron released DRedit's final version - DRedit99 which had most of Mabed's99 options.

Mabed had more wizards and options but Doron said that DRedit was much easy to handle.

during early 1999, I released the final Mabed version - Mabed2000.

Mabed2000 had it all. It had brand new menus and and help options which made Mabed a super friendly user program. Mabed had also a brand new MP3 player, and a built-in Internet browser. A HTML skin program was added, to make Mabed even more friendly.

After Mabed2000 was released, Doron admitted that he lost the race and that Mabed was better.

After that we decided to stop programming for fun and to try to earn money.

There are currently no new planned Mabed versions.
