Labor or Likud?
a good question!. Posted 16/5/2002
Israel will elect a new government and a new Knesset
in one year.
----
The National union coalition is close to it's final
ending.
Most of the political observers agree today that the
day that the Labor (Avoda) party will quit the government is near.
A couple of days ago there was a Likud center.
Two days later the Labor also held a big convention.
Each party expressed alot of opinions and they were
quite different from each other.
On the one side stood Benjamin Netanyaho from the
Likud party.
"There can not be a Jewish state along side a
Palestinian state, and there can not be a Palestinian state along
side a Jewish state" said Mr. Netabyaho
On the other side stood Avraham Burg from the Labor
party.
"This should be the deal: all land = all peace.
Israel should withdraw from east Jerusalem, and the West-Bank"
said Mr. Burg.
I cauld not belive my ears.
On the one side stood a hawk who tryed with all his
powers to wipe out any hope for peace and on the other hand stood
a weak and pathetic man who was wealing to give up everything to
one of our most bitter enemies and to comply with all terrorist
claims.
At that moment I said to myself: "The elections
we will have will be between bad, and very bad".
Luckily to us, we still have alot of brave leaders
and alot of intresting opinions.
After Netanyaho finnished his speach the Prime Minister
of Israel Ariel Sharon (Likud) came to speak.
"Israel will not surrender to terror. Israel
will not negotiate with terrorists. The corrupt and dictatorship
Palestinain Authority must change. They should stop supporting and
arming terrorists, and they should make sure that terror will never
be used as a political tool. Yasser Arafat is a terrorist, and he
must be replaced.
When there will be a new Authority we will talk peace.
The people of Israel support peace and will be willing to make painful
compormises for peace.
Peace will come when terror will stop."
Then, at the Labor convention came the leader of Labor
and the Minister of Defence Benjamin Ben-Eliezer to speak.
"Israel wants peace. The people of Israel want
peace.
We must fight terror and fight for reforms and changes
in the corrupt Palestinian Authority and we always must leave a
window open for peace.
Yasser Arafat must understand that by using terror
he will not achieve anything, he will only make matters harder for
his suffering people.
The Palestinains must relize where terror leads them.
They must act to replace their corrupt leadership.
My vision is of two states: Israel living side by
side with Palestine.
Israel will be willing to make painful compormises
for peace when terror will come to an end:
We will give up most of our land in the West-Bank
and evacuate most of our settlements.
We will be willing to make a compromise in Jerusalem.
Jeruslam will remain the united capital of Israel
but we will be willing to give Palestinian dominated east-Jerusalem
areas for the sake of peace.
We belive in peace, and peace will come one day."
The two man represent similar but yet different ideas.
In one year time the people of Israel will choose
their new leaders.
I hope and pray that the voice of logic will prevail.
I will give my vote to the party where the extremest
will be least heard.
Benjamin Ben-Eliezer (Labor)
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (Likud).
Israel fights the war against terror.
Yasser Arafat (Palestinian Authority) and Sheich Yassin
(Hamas) - what is the difference?
