Me, my friends and the IDF (a series of articles) - Part 1. Posted 30/1/2002

The final countdown has begun.

Less then 6 month seperates me and the approaching army service.

Every young men and woman have to serve in the army, and frankly, it's the only thing that kept this country going and not being destroyed, and in less then 6 month from now it will become our duty to serve and defend the country.

Every men and woman who finnish school join the army in Israel. (except for special reasons: orthodox jews, suffering from sickness and other special cases)

Men serve 3 years, woman serve about 2 years.

ANN begins today to track me and my friends - where are we going to be in the army?

As the army service will continue to approach, we will recieve more and more details and information and ANN will update you on the progress and preperation towards our army service.

Names are arranged by the ammount of known information.

Arik (me)

I am due to join the army in 6 month from now.

My open options are: IDF's spokesperson unit (more info in the IDF spokesperson website), IDF naval forces (war ships), IDF intellegance forces (Field int) and IDF command and instruction units.

If I will go to the Naval forces or the Field Intellegance forces I would be part of IDF's fighting forces and I would be stationed in Israel's 'hot' sectors: Gaza, West-Bank, Lebanon etc (Naval patrol, Naval battle ships patrol etc)

Alot of options remain open for me and only time will tell where the army will choose to put me.

Franky:

Franky is due to join the army in 6 month from now.

Franky's open options are the fighting forces (KRAVI) which include: Sayeret Golani (infantry - northen Israel), Sayeret Givati (infantry), Sayeret Nahal (infantry), IDF armored forces (Tanks and all other armor) and all other fighting forces.

Franky is going to be a fighter, let's hope he'll be able to handle it :)

IDF's fighting forces are the fighting force of the IDF and they are stationed in all front lines: Gaza, West-Bank, Golan-Heights, Lebanon and every other 'hot' sector in Israel.

Nir:

Nir is due to join the army in 6 month from now.

Nir's open options are the fighting forces (KRAVI) which include: Sayeret Golani (infantry - northen Israel), Sayeret Givati (infantry), Sayeret Nahal (infantry), IDF armored forces (Tanks and all other armor) and all other fighting forces.

Nir is probably going to be a fighter, although he might still go to the army's ATUDA forces.

ATUDA forces includes people who decide to go to Universities and study subjects that the army needs. Then, when they finnish University they join the army and serve as commanders.

IDF's fighting forces are the fighting force of the IDF and they are stationed in all front lines: Gaza, West-Bank, Golan-Heights, Lebanon and every other 'hot' sector in Israel.

Ziva:

Ziva is due to join the army in 6 month from now.

Ziva's open options are IDF's Intellegence forces and IDF's Jobnic forces (IDF's radio stations, IDF's instruction forces.. etc)

If Ziva wount go to the Intellegance forces he will be stuck with the Jobnicim (people who sit in a office and sign papers) :)

Roy:

Roy is due to join the army in 6 month from now.

Roy's open options are same as Franky's open options: IDF's fighting forces.

Fruchtman:

Fruchtman is due to join the army in about 8 month - one year from now.

Where will he go: still UNKNOWN.

Boxy:

Boxy is due to join the army in about 1.5-2 years from now.

Where will he go: UNKNOWN - early stages.

To be continued... (when I get more information about more people).

IDF's senior commanders

IDF's fighting forces (Lebanon sector)

IDF's fighting forces (Sayeret Golani - the Hermon sector)

IDF's fighting forces (Armored forces: IDF tanks)

IDF's fighting forces (IDF Airforce units (I.A.F) - Helicopter units)
