Operation 'Defensive
wall' update. Posted 3/4/2002
Operation 'Defensive wall' to destroy terror continues.
* IDF forces took over Qalqiliya and begun searching
houses for suspected terrorists and arms.
Fire fights broke out between IDF forces and terrorists
inside the city.
IDF forces killed 4 terrorists and caught around 40
others.
* IDF forces surrounded Jibril Rajub's HQ in the outskirts
of Ramalla.
IDF forces belive that about 400 people are hidding
inside, 80 of them wanted terrorists.
IDF forces also belive, although this piece of information
is not sure, that Maruan Barguti, the head terrorist of the Fatah
movement is also trapped inside the HQ.
About 200 people surrendered to the IDF forces, 40
of them wanted terrorists.
IDF forces now belive that about 70 or more terrorists
are still hidding inside the HQ.
* IDF forces took over Beith Lehem and begun searching
houses for suspected terrorists and arms.
Fire fights broke out and IDF forces killed at least
2 terrorists, one of them a senior member of the Al Aksa brigades
(Fatah).
About 200 terrorists took refugee inside 'Church of
the Nativity' a holy place for Chirstians. The terrorists are shooting
at IDF's forces from the church and IDF forces are not responding
in order not to harm the holy Church.
IDF forces surrounded the Church and called for the
terrorists to surrender.
* IDF forces took over Jenin and begun searching houses
for suspected terrorists and arms.
Fire fights broke out between IDF forces and terrorists
inside the city.
IDF forces killed at least 4 wanted terrorists and
caught sevral others.
* IDF forces took over Tul-Karem and begun searching
houses for suspected terrorists and arms.
IDF forces killed at least 2 wanted terrorists.
* IDF forces continue their operation inside Ramalla
as well.
More then 750 people suspected of terror activity
were arrested, more then 90 of them confirmed to be wanted terrorists.
More then 20 terrorists were killed during the IDF
operation in Ramalla so far.
* IDF forces lost 2 soldiers during the operation.
They both were killed during the storming of Arafat's Mukata HQ
in Ramalla.
* Sadly, at least 6 inocent Palestinian civillians
also died during the operation.
Let me stress once again that they were killed by
mistake or were caught in the middle of a fire fight.
IDF's spokesperson and Israel's Defence Minister Binyamin
Ben-Eliezer appologized for these terrible deaths.
IDF is targeting terrorists. It has no intrest to
harm inocent Palestinian civillians.
